Everyone has bad days and good days, and this is no different for me. I had a difficult time getting outside and doing my training sessions last week. I was tired, unmotivated, and just couldn’t get into my training. I was hard on myself about this and then realized that it is okay to try again tomorrow. I gave myself a break.
Mental health is just as important as physical health! I decided to take a mental break and think about why I am doing this race. I am doing it for myself, but I am also doing it for way more than myself. When I allowed myself to breathe and take a break it helped. Burnout happens with athletes and it occurs even more when athletes don’t allow themselves the ability to step back and breathe. There is the saying out there that “It is okay to not be okay” and I couldn’t agree more, but it is key to get back up. In order to grow you have to learn to be uncomfortable and do the things that seem scary. I love training and preparing for races because it forces me to step out of my comfort zone and do the things that are scary, but I also learn so much about myself and what I am capable of. Remember, it is okay to try again tomorrow but to never give up on yourself.
